It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the passing of our community's beloved albino squirrel. We received an update email this morning from the wildlife hospital in Dublin that she did not survive despite the dedication and efforts of their team. You can read their email below.
"Dear Katie, I’m reaching out with sorrowful news that the eastern gray squirrel you presented to Ohio Wildlife Center’s hospital did not survive. As soon as you passed them off into our care, the patient received a rehabilitation assessment and exam by our dedicated veterinary team. Despite our best efforts, treatment was not enough to help the animal recover enough to return to the wild. I would also like to take a moment to honor the many donors that made the receipt and care of this animal possible - without them, Ohio Wildlife Center would not be able to help ill, injured and orphaned wildlife along their journey back to the wild. If you would like to join them by giving a gift in honor of the animal you helped, you would give hope to others like them. Click here to pledge your support today. Nonetheless, we are so thankful that you took the time to recognize this eastern gray squirrel in need and that you trusted us to help. Your concern for our wild neighbors makes a difference no matter the outcome, because it provides a chance for recovery that would have never existed without your intervention. Thank you. Thank you, -David Donahue, Rehabilitation Manager & Lolita Haverlock, Executive Director P.S. Follow us on social for regular stories about wild animal care and ways to support Ohio habitats!"
